HBO renewed its critically acclaimed drama series “In Treatment,” despite relatively low ratings in its first season.
The show will return with stars Gabriel Byrne and Dianne Wiest. Mr. Byrne plays a therapist and Ms. Wiest is his former mentor who is now counseling him as his own family life crumbles.
Running Monday through Friday for seven weeks earlier this year, fans tended to watch the series on digital video recorders and via HBO On Demand, which don’t count towards the overnight Nielsen ratings that shows on broadcast networks are usually judged by. HBO has always prided itself on not programming shows based on their Nielsen number any, because the network is not ad supported.
Production will begin in New York this fall, with the new episode scheduled to air sometime next year, the network said in a statement.
“In Treatment” will have a new executive producer in Warren Leight, who previously worked on “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.” Returning executive producers for the show include Rodrigo Garcia, Hagai Levi, Stephen Levinson and Mark Wahlberg. Source.
For now it seems as if though Melissa won’t return, according to this article.
